Jennette Allen-McCombs

Dr. Jennette Allen-McCombs is an Assistant Professor and Deputy Chair in the Department of Social Work at CUNY York College. She holds a PhD and MSW from Stony Brook University. Her research focuses on equity in education, first-generation student success, and anti-racist social work practices. She teaches courses including Social Work Practice, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and Research Methods. Professional experience includes roles as a forensic social worker and field education coordinator.

Dr. Allen-McCombs' work emphasizes constructivist approaches to understanding marginalized groups' lived experiences. Recent grants include a CUNY Black, Race & Ethnic Studies Seed Grant exploring anti-racist social work theories (2024-2025) and PSC-CUNY-funded studies on first-gen student achievement (2020-2021). She actively serves on institutional assessment committees and DEI initiatives, and has received multiple faculty fellowships recognizing her scholarly contributions.
