Tymofii Brik is the Rector of the Kyiv School of Economics since 2022. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Carlos III University of Madrid (2013) and a Master’s degree from Utrecht University (2011). His academic roles include teaching and research in sociology, with specialties in sociology of religion, social research methods, network analysis, and identities. He has held visiting professorships at Northwestern University (2023), Stanford University (2018), and New York University (2019–2020), supported by Wuchinch and Fulbright scholarships.
His research focuses on governance, conflict dynamics, religious institutions, and decentralization. Notable contributions include analyzing Ukraine’s resilience during the Russian invasion, the role of local governance, and the impact of decentralization policies on trust in government. He chairs CEDOS supervisory board and advises Texty.org and Gradus research company.
Key awards include the 2018 Natalia Panina Award for Best Young Sociologist. Since 2021, he coordinates the European Social Survey (ESS) in Ukraine. His media contributions address topics like wartime propaganda, decentralization’s societal impact, and Ukraine’s political dynamics in outlets like Foreign Affairs and VoxEU.
Brik co-founded Urban Space 500, a Kyiv-based public restaurant. His advisory roles and academic leadership reflect deep engagement with Ukraine’s social, political, and institutional challenges.
