Olle Järv is an Associate Professor of Human Geography at the University of Helsinki's Department of Geosciences and Geography, and a researcher at the Academy of Finland. In 2024, he was awarded the UT Visiting Professor Scholarship, enabling him to join the University of Tartu's Department of Geography for academic and research activities starting the next academic year. His research focuses on human mobility, big data analysis, and societal dynamics, with a particular emphasis on urban and population studies.
He plans to collaborate with the University of Tartu’s Centre for Migration and Urban Studies and Mobility Lab, aiming to contribute to teaching and research development at his alma mater. Järv highlights the importance of continuing the legacy of Professor Rein Ahas in the Mobility Lab, where his career began. He emphasizes Tartu's collaborative academic environment as pivotal for fostering new ideas and international projects.
Recipient of the prestigious scholarship, funded by institutions including the Estonian Studies Foundation and the Tartu University Fund, Järv will also engage in public lectures and promote his field internationally. Previous scholars under this program include prominent figures like David Ilmar Lepasaar Beecher and Jaan Valsiner.
