Professor Trish McCulloch is a Professor of Social Work, Education and Society at the University of Dundee, serving as Senior Associate Dean for Culture and People in the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law. Her research focuses on criminal justice, professional learning, and participatory methodologies with marginalized groups. She holds leadership roles in national advisory bodies including Vice Chair of the Scottish Advisory Panel on Offender Rehabilitation (SAPOR) and Editorial Board Member for the British Journal of Social Work.
Education: Holds a PhD (2014) in Criminal Justice Sanctions from the University of Dundee, MSc Social Work (1999) and MSc Social Science (2004) from the University of Edinburgh, and MA from the University of Aberdeen (1997).
Research Interests: Criminal justice system reform, youth justice policy, desistance theory, early career social worker development, and co-design approaches with criminalised young adults. Active in projects like the Scottish Government’s 'Measuring Justice' initiative and Royal Society of Edinburgh-funded 'Co-designing Social Justice' study.
Grants & Advisory Roles: Secured funding from Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scottish Social Services Council, and Scottish Universities Insight Institute. Served on National Strategy for Community Justice Steering Group and Scottish Heads of Social Work Group.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Scottish Centre for Criminal Justice Research and Dundee City Council’s Justice and Children’s Services divisions.
