Professor Elizabeth Weaver is a leading academic in Criminal and Social Justice at the University of Strathclyde's School of Social Work and Social Policy. She holds a PhD from Strathclyde (2013) and an MA from the University of Glasgow (1995). Her work focuses on desistance from crime, penal reform, and co-production in criminal justice systems. She currently serves as Associate Director of the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR) and on the Scottish Advisory Panel on Offender Rehabilitation (SAPOR).
Her research emphasizes the role of social relations in criminal trajectories and the application of innovative structures like social cooperatives to support reintegration. Notable projects include the ESRC-funded exploration of social cooperatives and the Health-Justice Nexus initiative (2024-2029), examining crime's impact on public health. She has received prestigious awards such as the 2019 HaSS Faculty Impact Prize and the 2016 British Society of Criminology Book Prize.
Teaching interests include criminology, penal policy, and risk management in criminal justice. She actively collaborates with global networks and organizes events on AI in probation and penal supervision. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy interventions, advocating for inclusive and rehabilitative justice systems.
