Mrs. Laura Haggar is a Senior Lecturer and Doctoral Student at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Since joining in 2019, her work bridges academic research with over a decade of professional experience as a Probation Officer in the National Probation Service and Community Rehabilitation Companies.

Research Interests: Laura specializes in Women in the Criminal Justice System, Gender Responsivity & Trauma-Informed Practice, and Probation Practice. Her work on Rehabilitation & Desistance includes innovative applications of XR technology in probation decision-making, focusing on improving risk assessment training.
Recent Publications (2022–2025): Analyzed probation staff retention challenges, evaluated XR technology for training, and explored resettlement barriers for women post-custody. 2025 work includes studies on voluntary resignations in probation services and sexual misconduct employment assessments.
Teaching: Module Coordinator for Treatment & Rehabilitation of Offenders, teaching roles in Gender & Crime, Dangerous Offenders, and Rehabilitation & Desistance. Former Deputy Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Criminology & Criminal Justice degree.
