Dr Hannah Graham is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Stirling, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology department. She holds roles including Associate Director of the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR), Deputy Director of the Stirling Social Science Impact Acceleration Account, and member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Social Sciences Review Panel. Her PhD (2014) and prior work in Australia inform her research on penal policy, electronic monitoring, and criminal justice reform.
Research focuses include punishment systems, rehabilitation, desistance, and technology's role in justice. She leads comparative studies across Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. Graham contributes to policy via advisory roles, including the Scottish Sentencing Council (2019-2024) and the Sentencing and Penal Policy Commission (2025). She has testified before Scottish and UK Parliaments on sentencing, bail, and community justice.
Publications span over 95 outputs, including four co-edited books with Routledge. Media engagements include BBC, STV, and international UN forums. Awards include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She teaches at the University of Cambridge and chairs interdisciplinary research initiatives promoting policy engagement and public impact.
