Dr. Tracey P. Lauriault is an Associate Professor at Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communication, cross-appointed to the MA in Digital Humanities and affiliated with Carleton's Institute for Data Science. She holds an associate membership at the University of Ottawa's Centre for Law, Technology and Society and is a Research Associate at the Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre (Carleton) and Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute (Ireland).
Her research focuses on critical data studies, including open data, big data governance, smart cities, data sovereignty, and environmental sustainability. She actively engages in policy work related to technology and has led/co-led projects funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, SSHRC, and others. Key research themes include digital twins, disaggregated equity data, and the intersection of AI with archives and governance.
Lauriault teaches courses on data science ethics, critical data studies, and public policy. She advises initiatives like the FNIM Data and Technology Circle and contributes to organizations such as the Open Government Partnership (Ontario) and DAMA National Capital Region. Her work bridges academia and public policy to promote equitable, sustainable technological systems.
