Toshiko Mori is the Robert P. Hubbard Professor in the Practice of Architecture at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD), where she chaired the Department of Architecture from 2002 to 2008. She is the founder of Toshiko Mori Architect PLLC, established in 1981, specializing in innovative material use and socially equitable design. Her work spans residential, cultural, and institutional projects, integrating light, landscape, and traditional/local materials.
Her research focuses on systemic racism in architectural education, sustainability, and global-local design challenges. She co-founded VisionArc, a think tank addressing equitable urban futures. Notable projects include the Fass School in Senegal and the Brown University Watson Institute expansion.
- Awards: AIA Topaz Medallion (2019), ACSA Gold Medal (2016), and Academy of Arts and Letters membership (2020).
- Advocacy: Advocates for diversity in architecture via curriculum reform, faculty hiring, and community outreach programs.
Publications include Toshiko Mori Architect: Observations (2020) and Immaterial/Ultramaterial (2008). She lectures globally and participates in WEF initiatives on design for scarcity and urban equity.
