Erkin Ozay is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Planning, University at Buffalo. He holds a BArch from Middle East Technical University and a MArch from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. His research focuses on urban institutions, structural inequities in urban communities, and revitalization strategies in weak market cities. He authored Urban Renewal and School Reform in Baltimore, examining school design's intersection with urban policies. Ozay is a registered architect in Massachusetts and Turkey, with professional experience at Foster and Partners and Hashim Sarkis Studios.
His teaching emphasizes housing and urban revitalization, fostering multifaceted urban practice approaches. He co-founded UB's Urban Design Research Group and has been recognized with the Aga Khan Fellowship (2011-2013) and AIA/ACSA Housing Design Education Award. Ozay has taught at Harvard GSD, University of Toronto, and Northeastern University, and contributed to AIA panels on school design and community-based practices.
Key research themes include post-industrial city dynamics, equitable urban development, and the role of architecture in public education. His work bridges policy, design, and community engagement to address systemic urban challenges.
