Professor Torgrim Guttormsen holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Stirling’s Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy (2021–2027) and is a Research Professor at the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIChrR). He has held visiting roles at Fudan University (China, 2017–2022) and the Australian National University (2019), and is completing a U.S. Fulbright at Iowa State University’s Department of Community and Regional Planning (2025). His expertise spans cultural heritage management, urban heritage dynamics, immigrant heritage, and memory studies. He actively contributes to journals like Conservation and Management of Archaeological Sites and European Journal of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes.
Research interests focus on heritage’s role in urban transformation, public archaeology, and contested memory landscapes. His work integrates ‘deep cities’ methodologies to align heritage with sustainable urban development. Notable publications include Heritage and Sustainable Urban Transformations (Routledge, 2020) and Heritage, Democracy and the Public (Routledge, 2016).
Professor Guttormsen advises on heritage policy, balancing public engagement with academic rigor. His recent projects address memorials of the 2011 Oslo attacks and Vietnamese refugee heritage, emphasizing inclusive heritage practices.
