Professor Nathalie Nguyen is a leading scholar specializing in the Vietnamese diaspora, refugees, and the Vietnam War's impact. Affiliated with Monash University's School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies and former Director of the National Centre for Australian Studies, she holds a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and a D.Phil. from Oxford.
Her research focuses on memory, war, migration, and oral history projects. Key works include South Vietnamese Soldiers: Memories of the Vietnam War and After and the Routledge Handbook of the Vietnamese Diaspora. She has secured $1.65M in ARC grants and industry funding, leading projects on second-generation Vietnamese refugees and Vietnamese veterans' experiences.
Nguyen's awards include the 2015 Mander Jones Award and Fellowships from the Australian Research Council and Oxford University. Her work bridges academic and public history through webinars, policy submissions, and media engagements. She teaches courses like 'In the Footsteps of Refugees' and 'The Vietnam War' at Monash.
