Phuong Nguyen

Phuong Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities & Communication at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). He specializes in United States History, Ethnic Studies, and the cultural and political experiences of Vietnamese communities in America. His work includes a focus on refugee narratives, diaspora studies, and the socio-political dynamics of immigrant communities.

Research Interests: Dr. Nguyen explores the intersection of migration, identity, and public policy. His book, Becoming Refugee American: The Politics of Rescue in Little Saigon (2017), examines the social and cultural history of Vietnamese communities in Southern California. His recent works include a book review on After Saigon’s Fall and analyses of refugee policies in post-Vietnam and post-Afghanistan contexts.
