معرفی
Tom Warner is Chair of Clinical Neurology and Director of the Reta Lila Weston Institute at University College London (UCL), focusing on molecular pathogenesis and translational research for hereditary movement disorders. His work spans dystonia, Huntington’s disease, hereditary spastic paraplegias, and Parkinson’s disease, integrating cellular neuroscience, genetics, and clinical studies.
- Education: Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (2002), Doctorate from University of London (1997), Member of the Royal College of Physicians (1990), Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery from University of Oxford (1987), Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from University of Oxford (1984)
His research explores synaptic vesicle defects in DYT1 dystonia, axonal mechanisms in hereditary spastic paraplegia, and biomarker development for Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases. He leads a collaborative lab modeling neurodegenerative diseases using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
Recent publications highlight his contributions to α-synuclein assays, genetic determinants of disease progression, and epigenetic patterns in neurodegeneration. He also serves as Director of the Queen Square Brain Bank for Neurological Disorders.
- Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (2002)
- Member of the Royal College of Physicians (1990)
- Top Teacher Award (2006/7/8)
Warner contributes to education through the MSc Clinical Neuroscience program, undergraduate molecular medicine lectures, and international plenary sessions on dystonia and neurogenetics.
