Tom Smith is a Lecturer in German at the School of Modern Languages, University of St Andrews, specializing in contemporary German culture since the 1989/1990 reunification era.
His research critically examines intersections of literature, music, and visual culture through gender and queer theory, critical race studies, and diaspora frameworks, with current focus on marginalization within Germany's techno music scene. His scholarship interrogates queerness, masculinity, and cultural exchange across East German and contemporary contexts.
