Dr Tom Hulme is a Professor in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on the history of queer life in Ireland and Britain, particularly male sexuality and urban culture from the 19th to mid-20th century. He is the Principal Investigator of the AHRC-funded 'Queer Northern Ireland: Sexuality before Liberation' project and co-edited New Approaches to Governance and Rule in Urban Europe since 1500.

His research interests include urban citizenship, historical re-enactment, and queer networks. He has supervised numerous PhD students, including Michael Lawrence and Jamie Nugent. Awards include the Ann Owens Weekes Prize and a Mellon Fellowship. Public engagement includes BBC collaborations and exhibitions like The Oughley Shed.
Teaching focuses on queer history and urban studies, including modules like A Queer History of the World.
