Tom Wetmore is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Music at Columbia University's Department of Music. He holds a B.A. in Government from Cornell University, an M.M. in Jazz Studies (Performance) from William Paterson University, and a PhD from Columbia University. His research focuses on jazz, African American music, popular music, diaspora, modernity, cultural exchange, authenticity, and improvisation. Wetmore is also a pianist, composer, and bandleader based in New York City. His debut album The Desired Effect received critical acclaim for its innovative counterpoint arrangements and ensemble dynamics, blending contemporary jazz with complex interlocking motifs.
