Anna L. Meadors is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Music at Columbia University’s Department of Music. A composer, saxophonist, and producer, she specializes in nature-inspired compositions and joyful improvisation. Her work blends experimental jazz, classical influences, and electronic textures, described as 'potently feral' and 'John Zorn-like.' She leads the jazz-rock trio Joy on Fire, known for high-energy performances and NPR features, and has engineered their recent albums. Currently completing her Ph.D. in Music Composition at Princeton University, her education includes a B.M. from Peabody Conservatory and an M.M. from UNC Greensboro.
Research interests focus on organic soundscapes drawn from natural environments, rhythmic irregularity, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Ongoing projects include a solo saxophone/electronics album and film scoring. Her compositions appear on albums by Party of One, Andy Hudson, and Consortium Works.
Technical roles include music production, video editing for Joy on Fire, and exploration of electronic music interfaces. No formal grants or labs are explicitly mentioned, though her creative work spans academic and experimental music spheres.
