London-based saxophonist, composer, and educator Matt Anderson, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, is a Dankworth Prize-winning artist renowned for his album 'The Town and the City' (2022). He currently serves as a coach for Junior Jazz ensembles at the Royal Academy of Music, fostering young talent in London's vibrant jazz scene.
Anderson's musical practice bridges traditional jazz foundations—from Sonny Rollins to Wayne Shorter—with global rhythmic traditions and pastoral, folk-inspired soundscapes. His compositional approach emphasizes spacious arrangements and cross-cultural dialogue while honoring jazz's historical lineage.
His performance career features collaborations with Greg Hutchinson in the Jiannis Pavlidis Quintet, Ivo Neame, Gareth Lockrane Big Band, Calum Gourlay ensembles, Jamie Doe’s Magic Lantern, and Hannes Riepler.
