Boone's research centers on jazz composition, contemporary classical music, and socially conscious works addressing cultural genocide, environmental crises, and political injustice. His ethno-historical opera Ascencion examines Native American cultural erasure, while Waterless Music: A Drought Symphony confronts ecological emergencies. He pioneers the fusion of spoken-word poetry with jazz improvisation, collaborating with U.S. Poet Laureates to create historically significant interdisciplinary art that has been featured on NPR and in The Paris Review.
Recent creative output demonstrates a consistent thematic focus on urgent global issues through innovative musical frameworks. Albums like The Poets are Gathering (2020) and The Poetry of Jazz (2018) merge jazz instrumentation with politically charged poetry, while Waterless Music (2015) uses orchestral forms to visualize environmental collapse. This body of work has established Boone as a critical voice in socially engaged music, earning international acclaim for its artistic rigor and activist urgency.
