Dr. Tom McKinnon is an Associate Professor in Thrombosis and Haemostasis within the Department of Immunology and Inflammation, Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. His research focuses on Von Willebrand Factor (VWF), thrombosis, haemostasis, and anti-thrombotic targets, with affiliations including the Centre for Haematology, Centre for Advanced Therapeutics, and Vascular Science Network.
- PhD research on VWF glycosylation under Professor Mike Laffan at Imperial
- Current projects include VWF interactions as drug targets and thromboplastics research funded by MRC
- Collaborates with Imperial’s School of Public Health, National Heart and Lung Institute, and Common Seas
His scientific awards include a BHF Intermediate Basic Science Fellowship and MRC project grant. Research funding also comes from Kidney Research UK, Imperial Health Charity, and Apollo Therapeutics. He leads an MRes in Experimental Molecular Biosciences (launching 2026) and contributes to Imperial’s BSc in Haematology and MSc pathways.
