Josefin Ahnstroem is an Associate Professor in Haematology at the Department of Immunology and Inflammation, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. She has held academic positions since 2019, including promotion to Senior Lecturer in 2022, and has been a key member of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis group at the Centre for Haematology since 2009.
- PhD in Medical Sciences, Lund University (2009)
- MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uppsala University (2002)
- BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Södertörn University (2001)
Her research focuses on structural and functional studies of coagulation proteins, particularly the tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and activated protein C (APC) pathways. She investigates how molecular components of these anticoagulant systems relate to thrombotic risk and their potential as therapeutic targets for bleeding or thrombosis prevention.
Josefin teaches in Imperial College London's Molecular and Translational Haematology BSc program as Module 1 lead and engages in STEM outreach, including advising the "Invisible warrior – sickle cell disease" project. She is also the 2024 scientific secretary for the British Society for Haemostasis and Thrombosis and serves on the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis editorial board.
- BHF-funded Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellowship (2013)
