Tom Brewer

Dr. Tom Brewer is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), University of Wollongong. His work focuses on the intersection of society and natural environments, particularly coastal marine resources in the Pacific region. He holds expertise in environmental sociology, statistics, ecology, and socioeconomics of natural resource management. Currently, he leads projects on Pacific food trade databases and fisheries management, funded by organizations like WorldFish and ACIAR. He supervises four PhD students and contributes to governance initiatives like the Research Data Management Working Group.

His research interests include food systems governance, socioenvironmental dynamics, and policy analysis, with a regional emphasis on the Pacific Islands. Recent work addresses food security, trade implications, and marine conservation impacts. He emphasizes actionable data for policy, exemplified by his Pacific Food Trade Database. Brewer’s grants span food system resilience, resource management, and cross-border collaboration.
