Timothy McDowell is the Lucretia L. Allyn Professor of Art at Connecticut College, where he has taught since 1981 and currently serves as Acting Chair of the Art Department. He received his B.F.A. from Midwestern State University and his M.F.A. from the University of Arizona.
McDowell specializes in printmaking techniques including lithography, woodcut, monotype, etching, engraving, collograph, cyanotype, and photomechanical image making, as well as drawing and painting. His artistic practice spans multiple mediums with recent work focusing on oil paintings incorporating inkjet prints on Dibond aluminum and wood panels.
His artistic output shows a consistent exploration of contemporary themes through a visual vocabulary that blends painting and photography. Recent works (2023-2025) demonstrate a sophisticated integration of digital imagery with traditional painting techniques, creating layered compositions that address current social and environmental concerns while maintaining strong formal qualities.

McDowell's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with gallery representation in major cities across the United States and internationally in Canada, Brazil, Japan, Ecuador, Italy, and the Netherlands. His pieces are included in prestigious collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The University of Iowa Art Museum, The New Mexico Museum of Art, and the Tucson Museum of Art, among many others.
