Melissa Gordon is a Professor of Contemporary Art at the Academy of Fine Art, Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHIO). She holds a PhD and has taught at institutions including Goldsmiths University, Staedelschule, and the Salzburg Summer Academy. Her research focuses on 'Liquid Gestures,' exploring autonomy of artistic gestures through painting, curatorial practices, and feminist networks. She is the 2021 Pollock Krasner Award winner and authored Painting Behind Itself (2016).
Education: Rhode Island School of Design, Cooper Union, De Ateliers (Amsterdam). Residencies in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Brussels, and New York.
Research interests include material investigations, feminist publishing (co-founder of LABOUR and PERSONA), and decentralized authorship studies. Current projects involve curated exhibitions with architectural interventions, collaborative shows with peers, and experimental painting surfaces.
Teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue, offering courses like the Color Lab and international exchanges with Helsinki Art Academy. Pedagogical focus on gesture behavior, authorship, and material experimentation.
