Timothy Elston

Dr. Timothy Elston is an Associate Professor of History at Newberry College, where he has been affiliated since 2004. He served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College from 2011 to 2018, leading transformative initiatives in May Term, study abroad programs, core curriculum development, and the creation of career-focused academic degrees.

Elston's research focuses on late medieval and early modern English history, particularly the intersection of religious education and societal gender expectations. He also teaches courses on Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern history, alongside topics in gender and sexuality studies.

In his administrative roles, Elston championed academic innovation and institutional growth. Beyond academia, he enjoys reading, golfing, college sports, travel, and humorously embarrassing his daughters through vibrant Hawaiian shirts.
