Noah Guynn is a Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on medieval and early modern literature, theater, and culture, with expertise in queer theory, feminist studies, and performance history. He holds a Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.A. from Yale University, and a B.A. from Haverford College.
His work explores themes of gender fluidity, subversion of patriarchal norms, and the intersection of humor and social critique. He has authored two books: Allegory and Sexual Ethics in the High Middle Ages (2007) and Pure Filth: Ethics, Politics, and Religion in Early French Farce (2020). He has also co-edited volumes on medieval drama and critical theory.
Guynn’s awards include an American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship (2012–13) and the Phi Beta Kappa Excellence in Teaching Award (2009). His teaching includes graduate seminars on gender history, medieval comedy, and the 'marriage plot' in early modern literature.
He serves on editorial boards for Speculum, Exemplaria, and the Romanic Review, contributing to scholarly discourse on medieval and early modern studies.
