Thomas Norman is an Assistant Professor in the Computational & Systems Biology Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Engineering and Mathematics from Queen’s University and a Ph.D. in Systems Biology from Harvard University (2014). His postdoctoral work at UCSF involved developing Perturb-seq, a foundational single-cell CRISPR screening technique.
- Research Focus: Combining large-scale functional genomics with computational modeling to engineer cell states. Primary model: fibroblast biology in pathologies. Key contributions: Perturb-seq methodology, genetic interaction manifolds, and multiome CRISPR-screening frameworks.
- Applications: Cell therapy, disease modeling, and therapeutic normalization of pathological cell states.
Recent work (2025) includes Nature Genetics and Cell Systems publications on scalable CRISPRa Perturb-seq for recapitulating in vivo fibroblast states and multiomic integration of RNA/chromatin data. His lab explores representation learning, disease-linked fibroblast heterogeneity, and predictive models of genetic interactions.
