Danwei Huangfu is a Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine's Graduate School of Medical Sciences and a Member of the Sloan Kettering Institute. Her research focuses on the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying human development and disease, particularly pancreas development and diabetes.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Cornell University Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences (2005)
Research Interests:
- Genetic and epigenetic regulation of cell fate decisions
- Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) models
- CRISPR-based genetic screens and Perturb-seq
- Enhancer discovery and DNA methylation in developmental biology
Scientific Awards:
- Helen Hay Whitney Postdoctoral Fellowship (2006)
- Discovery of primary cilia's role in Hedgehog signaling
- Leader in MorPhiC project for human cell phenotypes
Lab & Collaborations: The Huangfu Lab, affiliated with the MSK MorPhiC Project, investigates diabetes risks using hESCs and hiPSCs, combining CRISPR editing with scRNA-seq to identify novel genes and epigenetic mechanisms. Future work aims to develop therapies and preventive measures for diabetes through systematic analysis of genetic-environmental interactions.
