Dr. Thomas Dilworth is a University Professor in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of Windsor, Ontario. A distinguished academic, he holds the titles of Killam Fellow and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His expertise spans modern literature, Romantic poetry, and interdisciplinary studies exploring the intersection of literature and visual art.
Education: B.A., M.A., Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He has authored seminal works on David Jones, including David Jones, Engraver, Soldier, Painter, Poet and The Shape of Meaning in the Poetry of David Jones, which won the British Council Prize in the Humanities. His edited volumes include Inner Necessities: The Letters of David Jones to Desmond Chute and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner illustrated by David Jones.
Research focuses on 20th-century literature, with notable contributions to studies of Edward Lear, Joseph Conrad, and Virginia Woolf. His recent articles (2023) explore ambiguity in Yeats, Edward Lear’s limericks, and the legacy of Hellenism in modernist works. Awards include the Killam Fellowship and Royal Society recognition.
Publications include over 100 scholarly chapters and articles, alongside poetry in journals such as Notre Dame Review and Poetry (Chicago). He is currently writing a biography of David Jones for Jonathan Cape.
