Matthew Bevis is a Professor of English Literature at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Keble College. His research focuses on Romantic, Victorian, and Modern literature, with particular emphasis on poetry, comedy, and intersections between literary and non-literary forms. He has authored books such as Wordsworth's Fun (2019) and The Art of Eloquence, and is currently completing projects on Edward Lear and modern lyric poetry.
He teaches courses on Romanticism, Victorian literature, and modern and contemporary poetry. His work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary collaborations, including exhibitions at the IKON gallery and partnerships with institutions like the BBC, Harvard, and the Natural History Museum. Bevis also runs poetry reading groups at HMP Grendon and organized events such as Always More Roses: James Schuyler at 100 in New York (2023).
His publications include essays in The London Review of Books, Harper's, and Poetry, alongside scholarly editions and edited volumes. Bevis actively engages with public humanities through podcasts, online exhibitions, and community initiatives.
