Eric Eisner is an Assistant Professor of English at George Mason University, specializing in 18th- and 19th-century British literature, Romanticism, and literary/cultural theory. He holds a PhD from Harvard University (2003). His research focuses on literary celebrity, the history of reading, and lyric poetry, with notable works including Nineteenth-Century Poetry and Literary Celebrity (2009) and co-editing the Norton Anthology of English Literature: The Romantic Period (2024). Current projects explore Keats’s influence on contemporary American poetry and Romantic-era reading cultures.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as British Romantic Poetry, Victorian Sexualities, and Keats and Contemporary Poetry. His work bridges historical analysis with modern literary criticism, as seen in essays on Mark Doty, Jane Austen, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Eisner’s research emphasizes interdisciplinary connections between literary form and cultural contexts.
