Thomas Demchuk is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Geology & Geophysics at Louisiana State University's College of Science. He holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Calgary (1992) and has spent over two decades in the energy sector, including roles as Principal Stratigrapher at ConocoPhillips Ltd. (1997-2015) and Biostratigrapher at Amoco Corp. (1992-1997).
- Bachelor's Degree: Geology (1983), University of Alberta
- Master's Degree: Geology (1987), University of Alberta
- PhD: Geology (1992), University of Calgary
Demchuk's research focuses on Palynology and Organic Petrography, with key contributions to understanding the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) in the U.S. Gulf Coast, chronostratigraphy of Albian-Maastrichtian strata, and source-rock reservoir characterization. His work integrates sedimentary systems analysis with paleoclimatic reconstruction.
His recent publications highlight expertise in sedimentary basin analysis, biostratigraphy, and organic geochemistry. Key topics include micropaleontological applications in stratigraphic correlation, tidal depositional systems in the Gulf Coast, and geochemical calibration of source rocks in Alberta's oil sands regions.
Demchuk currently serves as Business Development Manager at RPS Group Inc. (Houston, 2015-present), while maintaining academic ties through LSU and collaborative research projects in sedimentary geology.
