استاد · Molecular control of heart and skeletal muscle development
Graz University of Technologyمعرفی
Thomas Braun is a Professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Giessen and serves as Director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim since 2004. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of heart and skeletal muscle development, stem cell-driven tissue regeneration, and cardiovascular aging.
- Education: MD/PhD (University of Hamburg), Habilitation in Cellular Biochemistry (1993).
- Key Positions: Director at Max-Planck-Institute (2004–), Full Professor at Giessen (2004–), Dean for Research at Halle-Wittenberg (2000–2004).
His research integrates epigenetics, stem cell biology, and neuroendocrine signaling to study cardiovascular development and regeneration, using mouse models and cutting-edge proteomic/transcriptomic tools. Recent work emphasizes Notch signaling and miRNA clusters in vascular biology.
Selected scientific awards include:
- EMBO short-term fellowship (1989)
- Member of Saint Cross College Oxford (1988)
- Member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina (2001)
- Scientific Member of the Max-Planck-Society (2004)
Braun has trained numerous students and postdocs, chairs the International Max-Planck Research School for Heart and Lung Research, and coordinates large-scale initiatives in cardiovascular genetics and regenerative medicine.
