Thijs Bouman is an Associate Professor of Environmental Psychology at the University of Groningen. His research examines psychological drivers of responses to global crises, particularly climate change, focusing on personal and group values, and human-technology interactions in energy systems. Bouman collaborates with municipalities, governments, and environmental organizations to translate research into practice.
He coordinates the Economic and Consumer Psychology program and supervises PhD students investigating climate policy support, sustainable technology adoption, and community energy transitions. Bouman leads multiple research projects including FlexECs (Flexible Energy Communities) and TeSoPs (Techno-Social Energy Pathways).
His work has been recognized with the Best Poster Award (2013), and he actively contributes to climate policy discussions through media engagements and advisory roles.
