Prof. Dr. Katrin Rehdanz serves as Principal Investigator at the Kiel Centre for Globalization (KCG) and holds the Chair of Environmental and Resource Economics at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Her research bridges environmental policy, climate change economics, and energy systems with particular focus on consumer behavior and public perception of environmental technologies. As a key figure in the Leibniz ScienceCampus founded in 2016, she contributes to interdisciplinary research evaluating global value chains as aspects of globalization.
Dr. Rehdanz's research program spans environmental valuation methodologies, climate change economics examining both mitigation and adaptation strategies, and energy economics investigating household adoption of renewable technologies. Her work uniquely integrates economic and psychological perspectives to understand behavioral responses to environmental policies. Key research areas include the economic drivers of renewable energy adoption, public perception dynamics of climate engineering technologies like solar radiation management, and the complex phenomenon of indirect rebound effects where efficiency gains in one consumption area are offset by behavioral changes in others.
Analysis of Dr. Rehdanz's publication record reveals consistent contributions to high-impact environmental economics journals with a clear trajectory examining the human dimensions of climate policy. Her work demonstrates increasing sophistication in integrating interdisciplinary perspectives, moving from basic adoption studies to complex analyses of psychological mechanisms underlying consumer behavior. The research shows strong methodological diversity, employing panel survey data, experimental approaches, and comprehensive literature reviews across economic, psychological, and sociological frameworks.
Dr. Rehdanz actively participates in multiple KCG research initiatives including
- Cross-cultural differences in corporate and consumer social responsibility perception along global supply chains
- Experimental studies of moral responsibility in global supply chains
- Modelling economic and social dimensions of global supply chains
- Global supply chains, environmental regulation and green innovation
