Teresa Delgado, Ph.D., is Dean of St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John’s University, New York. She holds a B.A. from Colgate University and advanced degrees (M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.) from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Her work integrates decolonial theology, social justice advocacy, and transformative pedagogy, with a focus on marginalized communities. A Senior Fellow of the Ford Foundation, she has led initiatives on anti-racism, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and Puerto Rican emancipation theology. She mentors doctoral students of color and serves on boards of institutions like Colgate University and the Ursuline School.
Dr. Delgado’s research spans decolonial theology, queer studies, and ethics, with notable publications like A Puerto Rican Decolonial Theology: Prophesy Freedom (2017) and essays on topics such as ‘queering marriage’ and ‘justice for minoritized groups.’ Her articles frequently explore intersections between faith, identity, and social justice, including pedagogical innovation and moral frameworks inspired by figures like Martin Luther King Jr.
Her grants include Wabash Center-funded projects on anti-racist pedagogy and Latinx theological perspectives. Awards include the Louisville Institute’s First Book Grant for Minority Scholars (2011–2013). She has advised doctoral students in theology and religious studies, emphasizing justice-oriented scholarship. Her service includes board roles with the Hispanic Theological Initiative and WESPAC, a social justice advocacy group.
