Rev. Dr. Michele E. Watkins is an Assistant Professor of Theology at St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. John's University. She holds a Ph.D. from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from the same institution, and a B.A. from Howard University. Her research focuses on womanist and Orthodox theological continuities, deification, and interreligious soteriology. She has authored books such as *Deification of the Desacralized* (under review) and co-authored *Unmasking Racism* (2023). Her work bridges African American religious traditions with patristic theology.
Watkins has held academic roles at the University of San Diego and Iliff School of Theology, where she was recognized for inclusive pedagogy. She serves as Executive Director of the Society for the Study of Black Religion and co-chair of the Tillich Unit at the American Academy of Religion. Her scholarship emphasizes social justice and interdisciplinary theological dialogue.
