Jeremy V. Cruz is an Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John’s University, part of the St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics and a Master of Divinity from Boston College, alongside a B.A. in History from the University of California, Riverside. His research focuses on social justice issues, particularly labor ethics and the rights of U.S. farmworkers, informed by Catholic social thought and theories of coloniality, race, and citizenship.
He teaches courses in ethics, theology, and social justice, including the capstone for the Social Justice minor. Professional roles include Board Member of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the United States (ACHTUS), Steering Committee Member of the Latina/o Religion, Culture & Society Group at the American Academy of Religion, and a 2016-2017 grantee of the Wabash Center’s Teaching and Learning Workshop. Previously, he served as a Visiting Scholar at Fordham University’s Center for Ethics Education (2011-2014) and Adjunct Professor there in Fall 2013.
Cruz actively engages in moral advocacy, volunteering with religious communities advocating for farmworker rights. His interdisciplinary work bridges theology, ethics, and social justice, emphasizing practical applications of Catholic moral frameworks.
