Jorge A. Aquino is a Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco. He specializes in Latin American and U.S. Latinx Christian theologies, liberation theologies, race and religion, sexuality, and the political dimensions of social movements. Dr. Aquino holds a PhD from the Graduate Theological Union and has been at USF since 2005.
He serves as a principal researcher in CLACSO's Theology, Ethics, and Politics Working Group, studying Pope Francis's papacy. He is a board member of GRUPO GEMRIP and serves on editorial boards for Horizontes Decoloniales and Conexión Queer. Previously, he chaired USF's Chican@/Latin@ Studies and Catholic Studies minors and served as interim editorial director of the Journal of Hispanic/Latino Theology.
His academic leadership roles include past presidency of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS). At USF, he contributes to the Global Humanities program within the Global Honors College.
