Dr. Terence M. Keane is Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Assistant Dean of Veteran's Affairs at Boston University School of Public Health. He serves as Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development at VA Boston Healthcare System and directs the National Center for PTSD's Behavioral Science Division. With over 450 publications on PTSD assessment and treatment, Dr. Keane's research focuses on psychological trauma across military and civilian populations.
His research examines trauma-related disorders through clinical trials, diagnostic instrument validation, and longitudinal outcome studies. Key interests include evidence-based psychotherapies for PTSD, trauma resilience factors, cross-cultural mental health interventions, and the psychobiology of traumatic stress. Dr. Keane develops innovative treatments addressing comorbid conditions like chronic pain and PTSD through integrated approaches.
Dr. Keane has received numerous honors including two honorary doctorates, the ISTSS Lifetime Achievement Award, and the John Blair Barnwell Award for Clinical Science. He maintains active research funding from NIH, DoD, and VA, focusing on trauma registry development, internet-based treatments for veterans, and longitudinal studies of trauma recovery. His work informs clinical practice guidelines for PTSD treatment nationally and internationally.
