Dr. M Tracie Shea is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, with a 40-year career focused on trauma-related psychopathology and personality disorders in veterans. She previously served as Chief of the Personality Disorders Program at NIMH and Director of PTSD Research at Providence VA Medical Center.

Her research spans longitudinal studies of PTSD, personality disorders, depression, and trauma symptoms in veterans, funded by NIMH, VA, and DoD. She led major RCTs comparing Interpersonal Therapy vs. Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, and developed Cognitive Behavioral interventions for trauma-related anger.
Recent publications highlight her work on virtual reality exposure, brain stimulation, and mindfulness-based treatments for veterans. Her scientific awards include the 1999 Research Mentor Award from Brown University.
