Terence Halliday is an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University (ANU), School of Regulation and Global Governance (REGNET), and Research Professor Emeritus at the American Bar Foundation. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Sociology at Northwestern University. With a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, his research focuses on the globalization of law, spanning markets and legal freedoms. His work includes field studies with UN agencies, IMF, and OECD, examining topics like corporate bankruptcy and anti-money laundering. He co-authored seminal books such as Global Lawmakers and Criminal Defense in China.
Education: M.A. (Hons) from Massey University, M.A. from University of Toronto, Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Chicago.
Research interests include transnational legal orders, legal governance in China, and the role of international organizations in shaping global markets. His work bridges sociology and law, with a focus on political liberalism and legal accountability.
