Prof. Tarik Kochi is a Professor of Legal and Political Theory at the University of Sussex's School of Law, Politics and Sociology. His work critically examines radical right ideologies, global justice, and international law. He holds a Leverhulme Trust grant (2014–2015) for research on global legal order reconceptualization. Kochi’s research spans legal theory, critical theory, and the historical foundations of international law, focusing on social conflict and neoliberalism's impact. He teaches courses on international law, political theory, and war ethics. His award-winning book The Other's War critiques Western ethical frameworks on conflict and was honored by the International Studies Association.
Key research interests include authoritarian populism, radical right movements, and the intersection of law with conspiracy theories. His publications analyze topics like pseudolaw, global constitutionalism's decline, and Hegelian legal philosophy. Kochi’s interdisciplinary approach bridges legal scholarship, political theory, and intellectual history, addressing contemporary issues such as identity politics and global inequality.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses on public international law and postgraduate modules on critiquing international law. He actively supervises doctoral students in legal and political theory, emphasizing critical perspectives on global order and social justice.
