Dr Eric Loefflad is a Lecturer in Law at Kent Law School, University of Kent, and Director of the LLM Pathway for Human Rights Law and International Law with International Relations. He holds a PhD from Kent Law School (2019), a BA in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University, a JD from Gonzaga University School of Law, and an LLM from SOAS, University of London. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the Tribal Court of the Kalispel Nation.
His research focuses on the coevolution of international law and political consciousness, particularly examining how historical material conditions shape the legal order’s role in enabling or constraining radical political transformation. Key themes include the Cold War’s legacy, sovereignty and property relations, and methodological syntheses of critical legal history with global sociology.
Teaching responsibilities span private law modules (Obligations, Contracts, Property Law) and international law topics (Public International Law, Human Rights, International Criminal Law). His publications critically analyze topics such as Pan-Slavism’s legal critique, Rosa Luxemburg’s theories of self-determination, and the geopolitical underpinnings of the Crime of Aggression.
Eric’s work bridges Marxist legal theory and global historical sociology, with a focus on decolonizing legal narratives. He actively contributes to academic discourse through book reviews, pedagogical innovations, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
