Michael Cecil is an Assistant Professor of Law at Gonzaga University School of Law, teaching Constitutional Law, Federal Courts, Legislation, Legal Theory, and Property. His research explores jurisprudence, constitutional theory, and structural inequality.

His scholarly work examines the role of legal principles in constitutional systems, federal courts' influence on human rights, and how public legal regimes perpetuate disparities. Prior roles include legislative counsel in the New York State Senate and public interest attorney in immigration, landlord-tenant, family law, and probate. He has also worked at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, South African Human Rights Commission, and New York Bankruptcy Court.
