Her research focuses on International Environmental Law with a specialization in International Water Law and Governance, addressing issues like water rights, trade in water services, and integrating ecosystem approaches into legal frameworks. She also explores intersections between environmental limits, human rights, and sustainable resource management.
Dr. Bates' recent publications and presentations emphasize the governance of water markets, trade agreements (e.g., GATS) affecting water services, and environmental regulation in sensitive regions like Antarctica. Her work bridges legal theory with practical challenges in sustainability and resource allocation.
