Tao Wei is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University's College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He serves as Director of the NEXT Lab and coordinates the Clemson Cadence Project, while maintaining an adjunct professor position at the University of Rhode Island.

His research focuses on Domain-Specific Architecture (DSA) Design for algorithm acceleration, including machine learning applications. He also specializes in Mixed-Signal Circuit Design for sensor systems and Reconfigurable Computing on FPGA/CGRA devices.
Dr. Wei's research program receives funding from NSF, ONR, NASA, and private industry partners. He previously served as Assistant Professor (2012-2017) and Associate Professor (2017-2022) at the University of Rhode Island before becoming a Full Professor in 2022.

Beyond academia, Dr. Wei plays lunchtime basketball at Fike Recreation Center and is an avid tennis player. His lab (NEXT Lab) focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of computer architecture and sensor systems design.
