Tanya Soboleva

Associate Professor Tanya Soboleva leads the Germ Cell and Cancer Epigenetics Group at ANU's John Curtin School of Medical Research. Her research investigates how histone variants regulate chromatin structure and gene expression, with focus on spermatogenesis and oncogenesis.

Key discoveries include:

• Identification of novel H2A.Lap1 histone variant in mice
• Characterization of H2A.Lap1 in transcriptional activation
• Link between histone variants and RNA splicing machinery
• H2A.Bbd overexpression in cancer pathogenesis

Her group studies histone variant functions during male germ cell development and in cancer models. Research employs molecular biology, epigenomics, and super-resolution microscopy to examine chromatin dynamics. Current projects investigate H2A.Bbd's oncogenic role in Hodgkin lymphoma and C/T antigens in germ cell development.

She has established international research training through PhD projects on epigenetic information transfer, heat stress responses, and cancer mechanisms.
