Dr. Tanesha Allen is a behavioral ecologist and science communicator affiliated with the University of Oxford's Department of Zoology. Her research focuses on olfactory communication in European badgers and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in STEM. She holds a DPhil from Oxford (2020) and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge (2014), following a BSc in Animal Sciences from Washington State University (2012).
- Current roles: Royal Society Partnership Grants Allocating Panel Member (2021–present), EDI Consultant at the University of Cambridge (2023–present), and Fellow of the Linnean Society (2024).
- Prior roles: Research Associate in Zoology (Oxford, 2021–2022), Strategic Outreach Officer (Oxford, 2020–2020), and STEM Partner with the Abingdon Science Partnership (2018–2020).
Her research interests bridge animal behavior, conservation, and science communication. She pioneered the Abingdon School Wildlife Monitoring Project, engaging students in badger behavior studies, and co-authored the University of Oxford's strategic outreach report to improve access for underrepresented students in biology. Dr. Allen has been Highly Commended for the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Public Engagement (2019) and received the MPLS Division's EDI Awards (2021).
Her recent work explores DEI challenges in academia, including systemic barriers in conservation and cross-cultural approaches to equity. She consults for organizations such as Usborne Books and the Malacological Society of London on EDI and science communication.
